NCR S29 - Newest addition to the NCR family of Entry Level Servers
The NCR S29 is NCR's Advanced Workgroup Server with exceptional manageability,
serviceability, performance, storage and I/O capabilities. Optional redundant power supply, ECC
memory, optional RAID, and hot plug disk drives means the NCR S29 helps you obtain maximum uptime.
The dual processor-ready NCR S29 was designed for workgroups with high performance requirements
and extensive storage needs. The NCR S29 supports Intel's new faster Intel Pentium III Processors
with a full 512-KB of high performance L2 cache.
NCR S29's Performance and Expandability Competes with Departmental Servers at a Great Price
The NCR S29 is a deskside server that can easily be converted to a 5U rackmount
server and offers a level of performance and expandability that competes with
the larger departmental servers. Similar to the NCR S28, the NCR S29 offers support for dual
Pentium III® Processors, 133-MHz front size bus, enhanced memory bandwidth, and 64-bit I/O bus.
The NCR S29 has a total of 12 storage baysand the choice of a single or redundant power supply
subsystem. Such storage capacity, which includes six hot plug disk drive bays, and a suite
of advanced server management features, not only rivals many larger departmental
servers, but fits the need of those retail and financial businesses with
extensive storage requirements but not the extensive departmental server budget.
The NCR S29 is housed in an innovative workgroup chassis that offers tool-free access to major
system components including captive thumbscrews and color-coded cues that simplifies maintenance,
serviceability and reduces downtime.
Clearly, the NCR S29 workgroup server is the perfect platform for rapidly expanding small to
medium businesses that value the enhanced storage and high availability features the NCR S29
brings to this market segment. The NCR S29 is also a solid platform for larger businesses as the
platform of choice for their general workgroup applications or branch office locations.
NCR S29 Expandability Stats
The NCR S29 is designed specifically for expandability. Customers requiring only
one processor initially, but with the potential for expanding to two processors
as their business needs grow, are a perfect fit for the NCR S29. The S29's
highly integrated motherboard includes advanced embedded technology like the Intel Gigabit
Ethernet controller and the Ultra3/U160 LVD SCSI controller. These embedded controllers free up
the five PCI slots to be used for other pertinent cards or peripheral controllers. Expandability
doesn't stop here. The S29 can also accommodate up to six hot-pluggable disk drives, and, like
the higher priced departmental servers, customers have the option of a single or redundant
power supply.
