NCR 6400 Robotic Tape Libraries
The NCR 6400 and NCR 6401 Robotic Tape Libraries were
developed jointly with Storage Technology Corporation, an integral part of NCR's Scalable Data
Warehouse and High Availability Transaction Processing Solutions. Both the 6400/6401 offer high
availability, flexibility and performance in a fully automated, low-cost tape cartridge
storage and retrieval subsystem.
The NCR 6400 Robotic Tape Library is a fully automated tape cartridge storage and retrieval
subsystem that allows nearline data access and tape backup/recovery operations to proceed with
minimal human intervention. The NCR 6400 is a mixed-media library , which can simultaneously
contain both DLT (Digital Linear Tape) cartridges and IBM 3490E 36-track cartridges within the
same library. The NCR 6400 can scale to (10) DLT or (6) 3490E high performance drives. This is
very attractive to customers who wish to interchange tapes between their legacy IBM system
and their open NCR system.
Both the NCR 6400 and NCR 6401 libraries support DLT 4000 and are upgradeable to the
DLT 7000 technology.
